Our Story

Animaashi: (v) s/he starts being blown away (by the wind); s/he begins to sail away, soar away

Embark on a journey with us aboard SV Animaashi. Our 1984 Endeavor 38 sloop carries us along the southeastern coastline of the United States, exploring new horizons through the lens of art and adventure. As a disabled artist navigating life with an autoimmune disorder, I capture the breathtaking beauty of these coastal landscapes. Discover unique photography and sail with us on this extraordinary journey.

Due to the severe autoimmune condition, sailing has become a form of therapy, with a seasonal migration pattern to stay in climates conducive to health. The family sails north in warmer months and heads south when it gets colder, ensuring that the boat’s hatches can remain open for fresh air circulation. The goal is to stay outdoors as much as possible, keeping the interior filled with fresh air to help manage symptoms and maintain a more livable environment.

Who We Are

We are Joe, Kayla, and Gordon Clark, a family who has embraced life on the water due to unforeseen medical challenges. After over a decade in Northern Michigan, health issues and environmental concerns forced us to leave our home during the Covid pandemic. What started as a temporary stay in an RV soon evolved into a permanent lifestyle change, transitioning to life aboard our sailboat. Now, we navigate the seasons and the seas, finding healing and purpose in this mobile, water-based life.
