With this latest weather rambling I will be discussing the wonderful southbound weather window and the potential for yet another tropical system to develop.
Another Storm??
Update: 11/12/24 1700 EST
Invest 99L has been announced. See updated information and check the NHC website at nhc.noaa.gov
In the last rambling I talked about the potential for another storm or two to form in the Caribbean and southern Atlantic. It now looks as if this is going to become the reality. As the continental frontal systems start to sweep across the country with their cold fronts and storms it would appear neither the north nor the south Atlantic coastline seems to be optimal. So let’s take a look at the models.
The models below are the most recent (as of this writing 10am EST 11/12/24) and are showing the same time frame 0 Zulu this Friday until 0 Zulu next Friday. You can see the similarities here that are all indicating the formation of some form of storm.
It appears again that a storm will form in the warm waters of the Caribbean and then will track northwards into the Straights of Florida and then dissipate as it is intercepted by the wind sheer of the frontal systems which are running eastward across the continental US. Keep an eye out for official information from the NHC of course. It is also pertinent to note that there is also a significant low which will be developing off of the coast of North Carolina which will be causing significant wind and waves in the nearshore and offshore areas.
Southbound Travels
The good news however about this upcoming weekend, for those of you looking to sail south, there appears to be a great opportunity to get moving. Between Cape Lookout and St Mary’s there is going to be a wonderful shore breeze and a following sea with waves of 3 feet or less forecasted by the Euro model. These conditions currently appear to be favorable from at least Saturday Night until at least Wednesday.
The above are samples from the Euro model, but are indicative of the general conditions we are to expect for the time frame, at least at this point. As always be sure to check the weather before departing and to make your own decisions.
I am hoping to be able to depart the Carolina’s this weekend and to start the southern travels to get to at least South Carolina, this is all dependent upon the remaining chores and Cana’s stitches and leg situation. If you recall from the last rambling Cana had leg surgery and we are now waiting on the site to heal enough so that we can have the stitches removed. He is doing fine for the moment but is getting antsy to run around and play. I do have concern for the activity levels in regards to the storms but we shall see how that plays out over the next few days.
As always, safe travels and keep an eye out out for this system as it develops.
